Frequently Asked Questions

A few freequently asked questions to help us serve you and your pets better.

If you have any more questions feel free to email us at info@pawzandcare.com

1

Do I need to book an appointment in advance?

8

How long will the grooming service take?

Booking an appointment for a grooming service ahead of time ensures that you (and, more importantly, your pet) are not kept waiting any longer than necessary.

The amount of time it takes for pet grooming varies by breed and service, but you can usually plan on it taking up to 2 hours.

2

How do I get the cost of my pet's grooming appointment?

9

Do you dry dogs?

Prices for base packages are based on breed, condition of coat and length of service.

We select the appropriate drying method for each pet based on a variety of factors including: hair type, breed, age and behavior. While we do dry dogs, we have safety procedures specific to kennel dryers that are designed to keep pets safe. We do not use kennel dryers with heating elements and often combine multiple drying techniques to minimize the drying time.

What is the Look Great Guarantee?

10

Can I stay and watch my pet being groomed?

The Look Great Guarantee is our promise to you that you'll love how great your pet looks after a visit with us, or we'll do whatever it takes to make it right

Yes, you may comfortably watch your dog or cat getting groomed. For the safety of pets, however, we don't allow Pet Parents to assist with grooming.

4

Will my pet be sedated?

11

How Often Should I Brush My Dog?

I never sedate pets,  If your dog or cat has been known to have a strong behavioral reaction to grooming or bathing, please advise me on the same,  – but your pet will not be sedated.

Smooth, short-coated pooches, like Chihuahuas, boxers or basset hounds, need to be brushed once a week.

Pups with short, dense fur that's prone to matting, like that of a retriever, need a good brushing several times per week.

If your dog has a long, luxurious coat, like a Yorkshire terrier, she'll need daily attention to remove tangles. And if your long-haired pooch has a coat like a collie's or an Afghan hound's, be sure to brush every day and trim the hair around the hocks and feet.

5

How can I be sure the best services are provided?

12

How Often Should I Bathe My Dog?

At check-in, I will perform a thorough assessment and discuss your pet's needs with you to make sure the most appropriate services are selected.

I recommend bathing your dog at least once a month. Your pet may require more frequent baths if she spends a lot of time outdoors.

6

Is Human Shampoo Safe to Use on My Pet?

13

How Do I Keep My Pet's Paws Healthy?

Using a shampoo formulated for pets is best. Human shampoos aren't toxic to pets, but some may contain fragrances or other substances that can irritate pets' skin.

Check your pet's feet regularly to make sure they're free of wounds and infections. Remove any splinters or debris gently with tweezers and clean any small cuts. n hot and cold weather, moisturize your pet's sensitive paw pads with a vet-recommended product. Avoid human hand moisturizer, as this can soften the pads too much and lead to injury

7

Why Does My Pet Have Such Bad Breath?

14

How Do I Cut Down on My Pet's Shedding?

Bad breath is the result of a build-up of odor-producing bacteria in your pet's mouth, lungs or gut. Persistent bad breath can indicate that your pet has digestive problems or a gum condition such as gingivitis, and should be examined by a vet.

Most often, canine bad breath is caused by dental or gum disease, and certain dogs—particularly small ones—are especially prone to plaque and tartar. If plaque is the culprit, your pet may require a professional cleaning.

Shedding is a normal process for pets, but the amount and frequency of hair lost often depends on health and breed type. While you can't stop the shedding process altogether, you can greatly reduce the amount of fur on your furniture by brushing your pet regularly.

Excessive shedding can also be circumvented with proper nutrition. Quality pet-food manufacturers work hard to include the right amount of nutrients so that supplements are not needed, but pets with allergies or sensitivities might need to experiment with different brands to discover which food works best for them.
